I saw one at the supermarket about two years ago. I was amazed to see it there. Since then, zilch.

man those engines were junk. I saw one that got traded in with a knock to a dealer, he wanted to know if I had any interest. I laughed and then ran away

Now that you mention it....it has been a while. Amazing something so prestigious could be made so terribly. Mind you the freelander is kind of in the "PITA" zone to own.

It's expensive, but so so expensive like a Ferrari or a true real nice car that you preserve it. You just keep thrashing it and fork out $800 every oil change.

You need to talk to this person and report back to me. How does he/she keep it running?

My cousin had a 2005? something like that. She replaced it with a TSX a few years ago. Complained it always had problems.

First six months were a disaster everything bar the wheel falling off went wrong but the last 4 years it's been fine.

Freelanders are really popular in south east London for some reason but as of late there seem to be less and less and more evoques, I guess people are upgrading.

One drove by me over in West Manch the other day. I wasn't sure if it was knocking really hard or if I was hearing gunshots... either scenario was likely.

About a week or so ago. All black 3-door.

Took me by surprise, that's for sure.

Yesterday, a Freelander V6 sits in front of me at the stop light yesterday. It was quite clean as well and has Indonesian Army plates on it. My local army is weird.

I actually did comment on it, he said he keeps enough money saved up to replace the engine and transmission if need be.

Yeah, it's funny. I live in a pretty high-income area, and see plenty of Evoques, Range Rover Sports, LR2's, and even the occasional Disco. But there hasn't been a Freelander around here in years.

There's one in the hipster district near me that has red painted brake drums, a fake hood scoop, and looks like it hasn't been cleaned or polished anywhere since Bush Jr.'s presidency. It moves from time to time but I can't say for sure how. There's an absolutely gorgeous defender in the area as well as a well setup FJ to look at so I look at the autozone'd freelander as the way the universe balances itself out.

I see one every few weeks. I point them out all the time to my wife and daughter (I point out all kinds of weird/rare cars much do their "delight"), "look, the signals and brakes are those stupid lights at the bottom!"

This morning. A colleague has one. 1.8 K Series engine. She's never had any issue at all with it and it's a 2002 year and she's had it four years. The car has been maintained at a local garage (non Land Rover) out in rural south west Scotland.

My sister owns one. My dad bought it for her to take to college in Detroit because "It's only got 30k on it and looks great despite being 10+ years old. They only want $5k for it, too! This'll handle the potholes that destroyed the family minivan efforlessly!"

It hasn't colossally bitten him in the ass, the way his Jaguar S-Type R later did. It had the CV joints on the driveshaft fail, like they all do. Compare that to the Jag, which had the electronic throttle fail and take the ECU with it, to the tune of $5,000 and two months of diagnostic time. The Freelander carries the dubious distinction of being the size of a CR-V, but heavier than an Explorer. It's abysmally slow, thanks to the weight and inefficient faux-wheel drive system, and consistently achieves sub-15mpg.

If it weren't for the fact that the dash is always lit up like a christmas tree with faults (most recently for the brakes, which are now leaking), it would actually be quite nice though. Sitting up really high like it does, with all 4 windows, the sunroof, and the power rear glass retracted, you get a unique ride.

I just traded my 2003 in a couple of months ago. Had 120,000 miles on it, pretty much the whole thing had been rebuilt over the years. I saw a ton of them in Thailand recently.

It's been years, and then today on the way home from work, there it was, an LR2 apparently moving along under its own power.

The other weird thing was the Bullit Mustang holding up the left lane traffic, driving slowly, for miles.

It was like the Twilight Zone out there.
